IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: This will be the last post in this journal, because ...

Why? Because I wanted a new username. Hehe. All new posts and updates and stuff will be at miracleofmercy. This was my third choice for a new username actually; the first sounded too much like my icon journal name that it'd be confusing, the second was already taken. So 'miracleofmercy' it is. The name comes from one of SCC's songs, which will be explained in my first ever post in the new journal! And by the way, the new journal is still under construction, so bear with me. :)

I'll be adding all of you on this current friends list to my new one, so could you lot friend me back? Thank you muchly. :) See you on the other side. Haha...

Receives Musical Tribute And Standing Ovation At Last Night’s Ceremony;

Sparrow Records’ artist Steven Curtis Chapman was awarded his 50th Dove Award at the 37th Annual GMA Music Awards, held last night at the Grand Ole Opryhouse in Nashville, Tennesseee. Always thought footballers were an illiterate bunch of bruisers who wouldn't know their Chauchers from their Chantelles? Well prepare to think again after Preston's National Football Museum asked a range of footballers what their favourite books are. And the results are rather revealing...

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Wayne Rooney named J.K Rowling's Harry Potter series as his favourite read (bless, he's only little after all) with manager Sir Alex Ferguson plucking for fellow Scot Robert Louis Stephenson's Treasure Island and former Sunderland boss Mick McCarthy selecting every conspiracy nut's favourite The Da Vinci Code.

Martin Jol opted for Ernest Hemingway's The Old Man and the Sea, old smoothie Steve Bruce went for Martin Smith's biography of Frank Sinatra and David Moyes showed his political colours by going for George Orwell's masterpiece Animal Farm, while Sam Allardyce and Paul Jewell chose the more predictable duo of Mohammed Ali's The Soul of a Butterfly and Andy McNab's Bravo Two Zero respectively.

Museum spokesman, Mark Bushell said: "We are delighted that so many of the leading names in English football have responded to our request for information regarding their favourite authors and books. It's fascinating to see who has inspired them through their writing. We hope that visitors to the museum will be similarly inspired to pick up some of the titles that are mentioned within the exhibition."

Beleagured McCarthy sacked by Sunderland

Mick McCarthy has been sacked by Sunderland after three years in charge.

The 47-year-old former Republic of Ireland manager - who guided the club to promotion last season - leaves with the club eight points adrift at the foot of the Premiership.

Sunderland chairman Bob Murray told the club's website: 'I would like to thank Mick McCarthy for his efforts for the club and wish him and his family the best for the future.'

Murray intends to appoint a caretaker manager to take charge in the remaining 10 matches this season and will make a decision regarding a permanent appointment at a later date.

'Looking ahead we will be taking our time to appoint a successor for what will be another very important season for the club in 2006,' Murray added.

Sunderland have won just two games all season, garnering 10 points from 27 games, and Murray said: 'As chairman I take responsibility for what has proven to be an unsuccessful and heartbreaking season, despite the best intentions, efforts and expectations of every one at the club.

'I feel deeply sorry that the excitement, optimism and aspirations of all Sunderland fans looking forward to a return to the Premier League have been rewarded in this way and I apologise for this.

'It is especially tough on supporters who have turned out in numbers week-in week-out, despite seeing so little to raise their spirits.

'It is hard to see such loyalty unrewarded and I am sorry that performances and results have not mirrored the tremendous level of support that the club has been given.

'The club did not return to the Premiership just to make up the numbers and whilst we fully expected it to be a tough first season back, none of us expected to be in the position we are today.'

Manchester United have won the Carling Cup, for only the second time in their history (the first being in 1992). And our first trophy since May 2004! Wigan Athletic fought good and hard, and the 4-0 scoreline doesn't reflect how good they actually are. We all know how disappointing it is to lose a final, especially when you fought long and hard for it (like when we lost the FA Cup final last season to Arsenal on penalties). Good for Rooney for having scored again, finally. And you get your first ever senior medal!!! (The last time he got a medal when he was 13, in school) Poor Ruud didn't get to play. I expect an explanation tomorrow, Fergie!!!!

Ooooh the United players are now donning on jerseys with"For You, Smudge" on it. Good. :) Smudge being Alan Smith's nickname, if you didn't know.

I think this is a record no. of posts on my LJ for a single match. :D

The commentator says that this is the 4th time that Paul Jewell as manager has gone against United and it's the 4th time he's lost 4-0. Many 4s there.

On 6th February 1958 the airliner carrying players and backroom staff of Manchester United, plus a number of journalists and supporters, crashed in a blizzard on its third attempt to take off from Munich airport. United were returning from Belgrade where they had just beaten Red Star Belgrade in the European Cup and had stopped off at Munich for re-fuelling.

Twenty-three of the forty-four passengers on board the aircraft lost their lives, seven of which, were

ROGER BYRNE: 28. Left-back and club captain. Manchester-born he won 33 caps for England

MARK JONES: 24. Centre-half. Born in Barnsley. An England schoolboy international.

DUNCAN EDWARDS: 21. Wing-half. Eighteen England caps. Died 15 days after the crash following an heroic fight for life.

EDDIE 'SNAKEHIPS' COLMAN: 21. Right-half. At 5ft 7ins the smallest player in the side. Born Salford.

TOMMY TAYLOR: 26. Centre-forward. Cost £29,999 from Barnsley. 19 England caps.

LIAM 'BILLY' WHELAN: 22. Inside-right. Four caps for Republic of Ireland and a former United captain.

DAVID PEGG: 22. Outside-left. Made United debut at 17. One England cap against Republic of Ireland. Born in Doncaster.

Roy Keane to leave Old Trafford

Well, we sort of knew it would happen ...

Manchester United has today reached agreement with Roy Keane for Roy to leave the Club with immediate effect.

Big blow to United. Though after the spat that will never be released on TV ever, it's kinda inevitable.

I wonder who's going to take the reins as captain now.

Will we survive? Time will tell.

We knew he would leave one day, but I didn't imagine it to be this way. Not when he's still injured, and for crying out loud, IT'S THE MIDDLE OF THE SEASON! It's not even January yet! :-/ No way to end a great United career. I don't think in any fan's wildest dream (or nightmare!) that they imagined it'd happen like this. I would've imagine a proper farewell to Keano at the end of a season, with much pomp and hype with celebrations for the many great years he's had at United.

Shocking, really.
